It was innocence that did it – that and a casual bravado and maybe too, a hint of desperation to break out of my mother's style of life, anything but that, though it would hurt when I told her that, years later.
What was there to lose? If my goals were not Husband-baby-baby, then there were no goals to fail at. The only other goal they gave me was money. Boring.
