In the last of our Little Britain series, we visit a tiny terraced house in the Welsh town of Conwy that has been recognised for more than a century as the smallest house in the country

With its battlements and eight round towers, Edward I’s awesome Conwy Castle is a big tourist attraction, but it is to see a far more novel and diminutive building that many visitors come to this riverside North Wales town. At the southeast end of a terrace facing the quay, with its roughcast facade painted a bold Welsh-dragon red, No. 11 Lower Gate Street stands just 122 inches high, 72 inches wide and 120 inches deep. Recognised for more than a century as the smallest house in Great Britain, this extraordinary dwelling was an infill, squeezed into a gap between two terraces of cottages.
