Sie ist sechs, als ihr auf dem Pausenhof zum ersten Mal ein kleiner Filzball vor die Füße rollt. Als sie ihn zu den Jungs zurückkickt, ist sie schon ein bisschen verliebt. Ein paar Wochen später sieht sie ihre erste TV–Übertragung eines Fußballspiels: Deutschland steht gegen England im WM–Finale. Danach ist es endgültig um sie geschehen. Wo immer die Jungs sie mitspielen lassen, jagt das schüchterne, dürre Kind von nun an dem Ball hinterher: auf der Straße, im Garagenhof, im Garten. Hauptsache draußen. Mädchenfußball als Vereinssport gibt es in den 1960er-Jahren noch nicht in Deutschland, ist im Deutschen Fußball-Bund (DFB) sogar verboten.
