Promising Anton Esson steals the show in Blackburn

BAKER STREET welterweight Anton Esson was a one-punch winner in Blackburn. Esson made the three-hour trip from Gloucester to face Max Curtis (Accrington Lions) – and blasted him out in the second round. Curtis is a skilled boxer who has reached a pair of Youth finals, but the difference between them was Esson’s punch. The 23-year-old, who had several stoppages on his way to the pre quarter finals of last season’s National Amateur Championship, dropped Curtis late in the opening round and needed only one punch to end the fight in the second. He let go a looping southpaw left and it crashed onto Curtis’s unprotected chin, flinging him onto his back.
