KICKING INTO SPACE
Stefan Schwarz would have voided his contract with Sunderland if he’d blasted off into space. The Swiss midfielder signed to Sunderland AFC for £4m in 1999, when the idea of commercial spaceflight was just emerging. As his agent had already publicly booked him a seat into orbit, the club light-heartedly expanded their dangerous activities provisions in the player’s contract – just to be sure.
