In association with os.uk/osm MAX MILES ON FOOT:2 MIN TIME: 2 HOURS Ancient woodland, commercial forestry, farm and riverside Abbey St Bathans is a linear, scattered village which lies alongside the Whiteadder Water in a steep heavily wooded gorge in the Lammermuir Hills. Five miles north of Duns, getting to it is by some very minor and often quite narrow, and often steeply ascending and descending, roads. At first sight it does not seem promising, but patience is the name of the game here. In spring and summer, Common Sandpiper can be found, and a variety of warblers and other migrants are in the oak woods.
