You’ve got to get out of Europe for it to seem like a proper adventure, but I’d want my journey of escape and discovery to start and finish at my front door, with a cross-channel ferry crossing to mark the take-off point. Somehow the Caspian Sea seems like somewhere that I’d like to see. It feels like an exotic and exciting destination, so I’d aim for Baku, Azerbaijan, on the shores of the Caspian.
Google maps say 56 hours riding, and almost 3000 miles from my front door, but I’d deviate via Greece, pausing to drink Retsina…
