‘All very elegant, and very clever for 1948’ LOOK AGAIN. YES, the front and rear suspension are single-sided, and the wheels are interchangeable. It gets weirder. The exhaust pipe doubles as the rear swingarm and is rigidly connected to the engine, so that the whole assembly pivots – when the wheel goes up, the engine goes down, so chain tension remains constant. The front suspension uses parallel links with a solid leg and the wheels are mounted on stub axles. All very elegant and very clever for 1948, when the little Imme began production. The engine is a 99cc two-stroke with a three-speed gearbox, but no neutral. The clutch allowed the engine to run while the bike was stationary.
