Suzuki's new twin wades into a part of the market that's chock full of enticement. There's established competition (see this month's group test, page 48) and relaunched favourites, not to mention other factory-fresh offerings. Here's how the new GSX-8R compares against its rivals – and against its forebears. To give a real sense of where the Suzuki and its key competitors place in the market, we've included some pre-loved options for good measure. There's a 20-year-old GSX-R600, which was the 8R's supersport predecessor, plus a Yamaha TRX850-the original parallel-twin sporty road bike. All figures are manufacturer's claims… well, apart from the 2004 GSX-R. Today's claims are usually realistic but two decades ago they were generally wildly optimistic, so we've used measured output from our tests of the time.…
