HOW TO COUNT STITCHES

Check that you have the right number of crochet stitches

Being able to count your stitches is vital and helps you to make sure that you’re following a pattern correctly. It’s a good idea to count your stitches at the end of every row, especially after the first row of stitches worked into your foundation chain. To count short stitches such as double crochet, it’s usually easier to look at the plaited tops of the stitches (see above), rather than the v-shape side of the stitch. For your practice foundation chain, if you made 22 chains (plus one turning chain) as suggested above, you should now be able to count 22 dc stitches on your chain.…
