Royal Connections-Thanks to its cosmopolitan characteristics, Brighton is known as 'London by Sea'. It became popular with London day-trippers in the late 1700s. The Prince of Wales, who became King George IV, was a regular visitor, and he’s responsible for the Palace. The Royal Pavilion is a beautiful Indian and Oriental-inspired building and one of England’s most iconic landmarks associated with this city. It started life as a modest 18th century lodging house. Architect Henry Holland helped George, Prince of Wales, transform this humble seaside retreat into a lavish neo-classical villa. In 1815 George, now Prince Regent employed the architect John Nash, to redesign the building in the Indian style. The work was completed in 1823 when George had become King.
