Stirling Moss watches work on his Rob Walker-run Lotus-Climax 18/21 in the pitlane at the 1961 British Grand Prix at Aintree. Moss qualified fifth (and top Lotus) but would move up to second in the rain-soaked race, challenging the Ferrari of Wolfgang von Trips for the lead before spinning. Moss recovered but later retired on lap 45 with a brake pipe failure – for the second time in two races. Von Trips would go on to win comfortably, followed by team-mates Phil Hill and Richie Ginther, who completed the all-Ferrari podium.
