On the limit
For a car with self-levelling suspension, an air-suspended C-class has notable body movement under strong acceleration and braking. Still, it turns in ably and briskly enough, but there’s no particular sense of connection or communication through the steering as it does. When the steering does gain weight, it does so of its own accord, as though the assistance levels drop away at speeds that are decided by computer in advance and have not been deeply tuned for intuitiveness or pleasure. Once on line, though, a C-class is a pretty relaxed, stable cornerer. The stability control system is fairly deftly tuned, allowing very little slip, and it can be switched off, but this is no great driver’s car and presumably makes little claim to be.
