THE AVERAGE CAR in 20 years will have no steering wheel, no conventional pedals and no rear-view mirrors, according to the results of a poll of more than 200 researchers, academics and government agencies, among others, on the future influence of autonomous cars. Future tech firm IEEE carried out the poll, which also said that legal liability, policy makers, consumer acceptance, cost, infrastructure and technology were obstacles to a widespread adoption of autonomous cars. MERCEDES-BENZ UK has still to decide whether to sell a plug-in hybrid version of the C-class, due to be launched elsewhere next year.
