WHILE we drivers can be a bit selfish, barging our way through traffic when we’re late for work, in the case of spotting a pothole, it may be in our interests to consider those around us.
Of the thousands of pothole-damage claims made annually, most are dismissed under a law that essentially relinquishes the council in question from any responsibility if it is not “reasonably expected to know” of the pothole’s existence. This leaves drivers to pay hundreds of pounds in repairs due to the underfunding of roads – an insult, given the ever-growing cost of VED and fuel duty.
