The seventh-generation Nissan Zed is a reskin of the 2008 model, now with a 298kW/475Nm twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 (borrowed from its Infiniti luxury division) and nine-speed automatic transmission replacing its predecessor’s 245kW/363Nm 3.7-litre atmo V6/seven-speed auto. It’s still rear wheel drive, of course. That’s the whole point. The Z has always been pitched as an old school purist’s sportscar, so the six-speed manual also carries over. The flagship Proto (pictured), priced at $80,700 (with either transmission) is a limited launch edition that Nissan says is sold out, for now. It features 19-inch bronze forged alloy wheels, yellow brake calipers and black leather upholstery with yellow stitching. It’s available exclusively in yellow bodywork with a black roof.
