The term “hybrid” now refers to several different drivetrain technologies. Some buyers are not aware of this, and end up with a relatively thirsty car when they were expecting a fuel miser. The Mazda MX-30 M Hybrid runs a petrol engine with an upgraded alternator and a 24-volt lithium-ion battery pack. It means the Mazda MX-30 M Hybrid doesn’t have the ability to be driven on electric power, either alone or in combination with the petrol engine. The battery pack has just enough juice to run the ancillaries as the petrol engine shuts down when coasting or coming to a stop.
