The seventh-generation Nissan Zed is a reskin of the 2008 model, now with a 298kW/475Nm twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 (borrowed from its Infiniti luxury division) and nine-speed automatic transmission replacing its predecessor’s 245kW/363Nm 3.7-litre atmo V6/seven-speed auto. It’s still rear wheel drive, of course. That’s the whole point. The Z has always been pitched as an old school purist’s sportscar, so the six-speed manual also carries over. The six-speed manual and nine-speed automatic Z are both $75,800. The flagship Z Nismo, priced at $94,000 (with the nine-speed transmission) is a limited edition that Nissan says is sold out, for now. It features higher outputs of 309kW/520Nm, additional drive modes, transmission and launch control tweaks, wider, lighter, 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels, larger front rotors and Recaro seats.
