MERCEDES-BENZ GLA FROM $68,900

As with most SUVs, Mercedes’ GLA is based on a car platform, in this case the A Class, with which it also shares drivetrains and many other components as well. The base GLA 200, priced at $68,900, runs a 120kW/270Nm 1.3-litre turbopetrol four, matched with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission front-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes fake leather upholstery, a power tailgate, all-digital instruments and infotainment, voice control, navigation, wireless phone charging, digital radio, automatic parking and 19-inch alloys. The GLA250 4Matic, at $78,900, has a 165kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbopetrol, an eight-speed DCT and all-wheel drive. It adds lowered suspension, heated front seats and a sunroof.
