The Kia Niro is a mid size SUV with electrified drivetrains, comparable in size to Kia’s petrol-powered Seltos and Hyundai’s Kona. Prices open at $44,930 for the hybrid S, with a 1.6-litre petrol four/six-speed dual clutch automatic and electric motor. Combined outputs are 104kW of power and 265Nm of torque, and claimed fuel consumption is 4.0L/100km. It’s a conventional series/parallel hybrid in which the engine does most of the work but its performance and efficiency are boosted by the electric motor. It can’t run for any distance on electricity alone. Niro Hybrid GT Line is $50,580. Pure EV Niro models kick off at $66,950 for the S, tested here. A 68.4kWh battery powers a 150kW/255Nm electric motor and drive is sent to the front wheels via a single speed transmission.…
