The Hyundai Kona Electric is the EV version of the brand’s popular compact SUV.Available as a Standard Range for $54,000 plus on-road costs or an Extended Range for another $4000, the second-generation Kona also packs more gear into a bigger body than the model it replaces. Not that it’s particularly cheap by mainstream SUV standards. And how much you spend determines how far you’ll travel. The Standard Range gets a 48.6kWh battery that’s good for 370km of claimed range but performance has gone backwards compared with its predecessor. The Standard Range drops 1kW of power and a hefty 140Nm of torque, for now modest outputs of 99kW and 255Nm.
