Hyundai’s second generation Kona is a great improvement over its predecessor and is now one of the class leaders, joining Toyota’s Corolla Cross, Nissan’s Qashqai, Subaru’s Crosstrek, VW’s T-Roc and the Honda HRV at the premium end of the compact SUV field.
Kona prices open at $32,000, which gets you a carryover 110kW/180Nm 2.0-litre petrol/CVT/front wheel drivetrain; Premium specification is $39,500. The N-Line equipment option, which on the base model includes digital instruments, LED headlights and paddle shifters, adds $2000 to both.
Also carried over is Kona’s 146kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbopetrol engine, matched now with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, priced at $36,000, or $43,500 for the Premium. Again, the N-Line option, which on the base 1.6 includes leather/Alcantara upholstery — adds $2000.
