Chinese brand BYD’s compact Atto 3 SUV is priced from $48,011 before on-road costs, making it eligible for EV rebates in most parts of the country. It’s well equipped at that price, with smart key entry, digital instruments, 18-inch alloys, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, adaptive cruise, ambient lighting and fake leather. The brand’s full name - Build Your Dreams - is spelled out across the electronically-operated tailgate, although we’re not sure if that’s an asset… There’s also near-field communication that will soon allow owners to use their smartphone as a key. It’s one of many tech touches that appear inspired by Tesla. BYD’s local website also looks like a cut-’n’-paste of Mr Musk’s. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were missing at the time of writing, so there’s no navigation…
