Family heirloom

When it comes to restoring old Falcons from the ‘60s and ‘70s, the emphasis of course is on the GT models. So it’s pleasing to see that a ‘lesser’ car from that era has been beautifully restored – a 1972 XA Fairmont GS sedan with a long history in the family with which it still resides.

Corey van Genderen grew up with this particular Fairmont, and it was gifted to him by his father, Tus, in 2011 after having provided much of the family’s transport since 1997. Corey’s aim with the car has been to restore it as close to concourse condition as possible. All the numbers match, including trim and paint, and it still has the original Queensland plates letters and numbers that were on the car when it left the showroom in late 1972. Corey has had them remade, but he has kept the original stone-chipped pressed tin plates.
