As an art journal artist, it is extremely satisfying to work on a handmade journal — one that is hand-stitched, bringing tactile pleasure as each page is turned to reveal an inspiring word, gratitude, or a quote. This particular journal started its life from well-worn fabric pieces, a vintage button, and a small bit of fancy ribbon. Various tea- and coffee-dyed page off-cuts, along with interesting-looking scrap papers covered in paint spills and splatters, were cut to size and bound into three separate signatures. This tiny journal was sewn together using a color-coordinating waxed thread, employing the basic pamphlet stitch along the spine.
