Jag är glad att jag vårdade mamma

Jag valde att vara vid min mammas sida ända fram till döden. Det har jag aldrig ångrat.

Precis när jag hade börjat på sjuksköterskeutbildningen år 2007 drabbades min mor av bröstcancer för första gången. Hon och jag har alltid haft en nära och jämlik relation, kanske för att vi var de enda kvinnorna i familjen. Jag har nämligen också tre bröder och sedan fanns ju vår far också. Han var dock inte närvarande när mamma blev sjuk, och hon bodde ensam. I första skedet verkade det som om läkarna hade fått kontroll över sjukdomen, men den blossade upp igen och var mycket aggressiv. Det stod klart att mamma aldrig skulle bli frisk. Det var dags för vård i livets slutskede, och jag fick viss rätt att vara ledig för att vara hos henne. Jag bestämde mig för att ta hand om mamma under hennes sista tid, och…
