INDUSTRY SUPPORTERS RECOGNISED

At this year’s Te Kāhui Whaihanga Local Awards celebrations in Auckland and Wellington, Objectspace director Kim Paton and photographer Andy Spain received the Garvey and Athfield Cups, respectively. Paton was awarded the Garvey Cup in recognition of her commitment to supporting architecture and its place in the public realm. The jury noted that, under her leadership, Objectspace has become Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading gallery dedicated to the fields of design, craft and architecture. “Over the last 20 years, Kim and Objectspace have supported architecture, not only through exhibitions and publications, but also by engaging with architects.” Paton says she’s honoured to receive the award bearing Wendy Garvey’s name. “In 2018, we undertook an exhibition on the closure of the Architecture and Planning Library at Waipapa Taumata Rau University of Auckland with photographer…
