I confess I knew little of the rich history of Blair House, the president’s guest house in Washington, DC, prior to commissioning a photo shoot of the recently refurbished property for this issue, which is themed “Reinventing Tradition.” Charles de Gaulle, Nelson Mandela, and Queen Elizabeth II are just a few of the luminaries who took up temporary residence in the storied structure.
