A formerly bland spec house in the Hamptons gets a glorious makeover at the hands of Heidi Caillier

Designer Heidi Caillier and her client Colleen DeCourcy met online via The Expert, a platform that allows people to book video consultations with interior designers around the world. Just a week later, they decided to work together in a more traditional way—IRL, as they say. “I did a Keynote presentation of what I was hoping to create and basically pitched her the project,” says DeCourcy half-jokingly, knowing that Caillier is a very in-demand designer. This virtual meet-cute of sorts seems fitting for someone like DeCourcy, who leads the global creative team at Snap, the company behind the popular messaging app Snapchat. The project she pitched to Caillier was her new home in East Hampton, a recently built cottage that had a charming shingle-sided exterior but was otherwise devoid of character.…
