Threads and X both demonstrate that the internet is worse than it has ever been

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO and world’s most pilloried social media boss, had a rare public relations win in July. As Elon Musk’s Twitter continues to decline, Zuck unleashed a surprisingly viable alternative in the form of Threads. It’s basically Twitter, except tied to the user’s Instagram account. It currently has no desktop support, and lacks a whole lot of other functionality to boot. The upside? Functionality wise, there isn’t any, save the fact that it’s not Twitter. A stunning 100 million people signed into Threads in its first week. Meanwhile at the other circus, Musk embarked on a seemingly impulsive Twitter rebrand.
