We pay too much for electronics in Australia

The ‘Australia tax’ isn’t the only reason we pay too much for our goods.

OPINION | TWO BITS Consumers in Australia are all too familiar with cost-of-living pressures. Inflation remains stubbornly high, and wage growth has not kept pace. Put simply, a dollar today is worth less than a dollar yesterday. As someone who has spent a lot of time abroad, I’m sure that Australians pay more for electronics and PC hardware than anywhere else, though of course there are exceptions. Before I get to why I am annoyed – to put it mildly – about the prices of electronics in Australia, there are some legitimate explanations. The largest influence is the exchange rate.
