Can Asus’ smaller gaming monitor match the performance of its outstanding big brother?

PRICE $2,299 WEB rog.asus.com/au A few months ago, we wondered whether Asus had made the best monitor ever, owing to the performance of its 49-inch, ‘SuperWide’ QD-OLED PG49WC gaming monitor. Now here’s, what looks like, its smaller, 34-inch, more-affordable sibling. But, are the looks deceptive? The first thing to note is that the PG34WCDM uses a traditional OLED panel instead of the new-fangled QD-OLED. It’s noticeably less bright and colours don’t pop as much as its sibling, but virtually nothing else does either. Any ultrawide, curved (800R), OLED gaming monitor should still be highly desirable. Its 21:1 aspect ratio, 3,440 x 1,440 resolution shows-off a mostly crisp and clear Windows Desktop. Most fonts are rendered cleanly but thin ones (especially) can turn a bit spidery.
