AI has entered the game

Nvidia RTX 50-series pushes AI to the forefront.

Two years on from the launch of the RTX 4090, Nvidia officially announced its Blackwell RTX 50-series GPUs, with availability starting January 30. Several of the models offer relatively incremental upgrades over the existing 40-series cards, but the top-end RTX 5090 will provide a big boost to gaming performance, and perhaps a bigger boost to AI workloads. The GB202 chip at the heart of the 5090 comes with 170 streaming multiprocessors, 21,720 CUDA cores, and 32GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit memory interface – clocked at 28 Gbps. That’s 1.8TB/s of memory bandwidth, about 80 percent more than the prior generation RTX 4090, 27 percent more raw compute, and 33 percent more VRAM capacity.
