Taking this retro-styled game for a test drive

Free | PC, Mac, Linux VGA Golf taps into my old-man nostalgia for the days of low- poly 3D and poorly digitised sound clips. It uses a traditional on-screen swing-o-meter, you line up the direction of your shot (while accounting for the wind); you tap the button to start your swing, then stop it on the swing-o-meter to decide its power. There are a couple of extra steps to decide the angle, and type of club you’ll use, but playing the game is simplicity itself, despite a dated aesthetic that perhaps suggests an old-fashioned fustiness. It walks a fine line between simulation and silliness, in a way that I find appealing. Here you can swap golf balls for miniature snowmen, flower pots and planets.
