The K series CPUs, while offering class leading multi-threaded, lightly threaded and gaming performance, aren’t really mainstream options though. But that’s changed now that affordable 12th Gen CPUs are here. Intel is now set to dominate the low to mid-range CPU market. We loved the 11th Gen i5-11400 and the i5-12400 we’re reviewing here is even better. The i5-12400 is a 6C/12T design. It omits E cores leaving the higher performing Golden Cove P cores only. This means it might not be a multi-threaded monster compared to CPUs with a higher core count, but the strengths of the P cores remain, meaning it should excel at gaming tasks, where IPC is more important.
