The uptick in automobile processors and demand for consumer tech over the last few years has made it pretty obvious that the existing global semiconductor manufacturing supply chain was far too centralised to meet the demands of an increasingly technological world. U.S. president Joe Biden vowed to create a more amicable environment for semiconductor plant investment on US shores in 2021, and Intel seems to be cashing in on this already, announcing in January two new Ohio ‘mega fabs’ that it aims to have up and running by 2025.
