As APC turns 40 and looks back at its origins, Mark Williams does the same with his PCs.

Looking through the first ever issue of APC (Australian Personal Computer as it was called back then) it’s quite amazing to see just how far computer technology has come since the magazine first started. Apple IIe, Commodores, TRS80, Compucolor II and more, all dinosaurs now with their monochrome CRT monitors and floppy drives. The Compucolor II that was reviewed and tested back in that first 1980 issue touted a minifloppy disc capacity of just 51.2KB, with access times of 400ms and a transfer rate of 76.8bps. Laughable by today’s standards and apparently even slow for its time according to the article, but it does help illustrate just how far computers have come since.
