One of them is checkerboard rendering, often found in 4K versions of console games. This involves rendering half the scene, then (in simplified terms) filling the other half using the last frame’s data. The performance gains against rendering the arenderer is essentially given half the task within the same time frame versus producing a full higher resolution image. This allows systems whose hardware couldn’t output 4K images at a playable frame rate to “cheat” by checkerboarding.
