Apple has released its first big update to the Air range since killing off the MacBook, but is this new device good enough to keep MacBook lovers in the Apple ecosystem?

From $1,599, apple.com/au Apple decided to discontinue the MacBook in July last year, so it makes sense to have such a large update to the MacBook Air range this year. The new MacBook Air range sees a reduction in the base price by $100, so you can get a configuration with a 1.1-3.2GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 CPU, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for the reasonable price of $1,599. If you’re doing any more than the lightest of web browsing and document processing you’ll probably want to go for the 1.1-3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration for $1,999. This is the first quad core processor on a MacBook Air, so the performance bump will be dramatically larger than that of previous generations.…
