Microsoft announces Copilot + PCs. Mark Williams ponders if it’s the year of the AI PC.

From the front lines of the Australian PC market AI is on everyone’s mind, but currently AI is all processed in the cloud. Microsoft is trying to shift this paradigm by having edge compute devices (the PCs, tablets, phones and laptops you use) also have AI processing capabilities onboard, making them more responsive by eliminating the internet round trips for each request and providing more tightly integrated features not currently possible with web-based interfaces. Doing this requires a new class of PC that Microsoft is pushing with the launch of its “Copilot+ PC” program.
