OPINION | TWO BITS Chipmakers and laptop manufacturers like to throw around terms like revolutionary or transformative, but with Qualcomm’s imminent entry into the PC market with its Arm-based Snapdragon X CPU family, coinciding with announcement of Microsoft Copilot+ AI laptops, the market is at an inflection point as significant as any we’ve seen in many years. Pre-release benchmarks indicate the chips are able to hold their own against Intel’s Meteor Lake and AMD’s Hawk Point chips. Of course, outright performance isn’t the only measure of how good a laptop CPU is. The other key measure is power efficiency and hence battery life.
