Intel is sailing across a choppy Raptor Lake but Mark Williams knows there’s a Panther in waiting to save it.

From the front lines of the Australian PC market The 14th-generation Core series from Intel that just launched have the code name ‘Raptor Lake Refresh’, and as the name suggests it’s merely a update of the 13th-generation Raptor Lake design which itself was just an optimisation of Alder Lake. That isn’t a bad thing, indeed it’s often to be expected, but no underlying generational architectural IPC gains is a long-term problem that isn’t sustainable. Pentium 4 Extreme anyone? Essentially all 14th gen SKU’s are the same as the 13th series except they get a 200MHz max turbo bump effectively making the i9-14900K the same as the limited i9-13900KS.
