OPINION | TWO BITS Nvidia has a long history of Arm CPU development. It even tried to buy Arm outright in 2020 for $40 billion USD, but it hasn’t been willing or able to challenge Intel or AMD in the desktop and mobile CPU space. It does enjoy dominant positions in the high-performance computing and graphics markets, but high-performance CPUs haven’t been a focus for the company. It’s long been working on enterprise solutions, including the Grace superchips. Its Tegra chips have appeared in a variety of devices, from its own Shield and a Microsoft Surface tablet, to the Nintendo Switch and even Tesla cars.
