Programmers create AI to copyright every melodic composition possible Tool designed to help artists avoid future copyright suits. It’s not uncommon to hear a riff or melody and feel as though (or know) you’ve heard it before somewhere, but if you look at the sum total of possible melodic progressions available it’s no wonder there’s some overlap. Copyright attorney Damien Riehl and programmer Noah Rubin teamed up to create an AI that makes 30,000 melodies a second and saves them as songs on a hard drive. These MIDI files are then made available on Github with a Creative Commons Zero licence in the hope of using it as a defence for future copyright suits.
