Python for Machine Learning Part 2: Loops & Functions

Darren Yates continues this new Python series with a look at how to use loops and functions in your code.

In the last issue (APC #465), we introduced you to the world’s favourite programming language, looking at variables, printing to the screen and using the if-else statement. This month, we’ll look at the next set of building blocks called loops and functions. Python is popular because it’s extensible — you can define new code blocks called ‘functions’ and create new functionality. Loops are also vital to coding because they allow you to repeat the execution of lines of code without having to write them over and over. GET THE SOFTWARE Just briefly, you need at least Python version 3.6 (3.7 is fine too) for this series — we’ll use the Windows version for convenience, but there are also Linux and macOS versions as well.
