Att komma hem till Joar Dahlström är som ställa om klockan – minst 100 år tillbaka. Huset i den värmländska skogen ser inte bara ut som det gjorde 1917, han har också fyllt sina 300 kvadratmeter med antikviteter, tapeter och textilier från perioden sent 1800-tal till 1920-tal.

Det var hotet om rivning som avgjorde. I en känsla av panik, och ansvar, hade Joar Dahlström plötsligt köpt en hundraårig lärarbostad på 300 kvadratmeter och en ännu äldre byskola. Då var han 22 år gammal – och det var inte ens hans första hus. – Jag är en riktig Hemnetknarkare och gick på visningen, trots att jag inte alls skulle ha något hus. Jag bodde ju redan i en 1800-talsgård i norra Värmland, som jag hade renoverat under flera år. Men jag blev blixtförälskad i byggnaderna och i läget och när jag hörde att skolan förmodligen skulle jämnas med marken kände jag ’det här måste jag lösa’. Om Joars fantastiska hem ser bekant ut, kan det bero på att det figurerat både i Vem bor här? och Det sitter…
