ÄLSKADE GRAN

Äkta eller falsk, liten eller stor – men grön och grann i stugan står den. Julgranen har en lång historia och är omgiven av myter. Här är den första trendsättargranen och några andra historiska favoriter.

Dekorerade julträd kan spåras ända tillbaka till 1400- och 1500-talen. Legender utmålar kända religiösa män som Bonifatius av Mainz, den tyske aposteln på 700-talet, och 1500-talets Martin Luther som julgranens fader. Men enligt mer trovärdiga källor dekorerade ett skrå i Freiburgs vintergröna träd, förmodligen granar, med äpplen och sötsaker. Det var 1419, men om de var först vet vi ju inte. Det var i varje fall från Tyskland som seden spreds till delar av Europa under 1600- och 1700-talen. I samband med de svenska erövringskrigen i Tyskland kom julgranen till Sverige och i Norden finns belägg för små bordsgranar i adventstid under 1600-talet, men också traditionen att ta in en större gran till jul.
