WHEN HURRICANE KATRINA HIT the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005, my husband and I lost everything. In the weeks that followed, I found myself craving normalcy—and sweet strawberries. So I bought a whole crate of plump red berries from a roadside stand, planning to share with my neighbors who were also still recovering from the disaster.
