Pausanias does not name any of the tribes the Keltoi came from. According to Strabo, Brennus was a member of the (otherwise unknown) tribe of the Prausi, but he admits “I am unable to say where the Prausans formerly lived” (Geography 4.1.13). Strabo does, however, provide us with the detail that the tribe of the Tectosages was associated with the invasion of Greece and reached Delphi. The Tectosages were probably from southwestern Gaul, the area that became Gallia Narbonennsis. Strabo also tells us that the tribes of the Trocmi and the Tolistobogii were associated with the Tectosages, and all three became the Galatians. Polybius tells us that the Thracians around Byzantium on the Hellespont were conquered by the Celts under Comontorius (4.45.10 – a leader not named by Pausanias). These…
