Divination just might be one of the most foreign elements of the ancient world to modern audiences. We still have gods, we still have religion, but few of us, if any, turn to divination to seek answers to specific questions or to foretell the future. Indeed, fortune tellers are often dismissed as charlatans or simply performers. However, for much of human history, across a range of time and cultures, divination has been a legitimate recourse for people seeking clarity. The flight of birds, the sound of the wind through the leaves of a tree, the shape and form of a sacrifice's liver were all real to people in the ancient world.
